Ministry of Communications warns of attempts to hack WhatsApp accounts in Syria by unknown sides

Damascus, SANA- Information Security Center at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has warned of attempts to hack WhatsApp accounts in Syria by unknown sides.

The center said that those sides are currently carrying out a systematic attack on WhatsApp accounts belonging to users inside Syria, logging out of legitimate devices and reactivating accounts on the attackers’ devices, calling on all citizens and users to be cautious when dealing with any messages asking them to share the WhatsApp OTP verification code.

Director of the Information Security Center, Eng. Jihad Alala, told SANA in a statement that immediate protection measures should be taken, mainly not to share the verification code sent to the user from WhatsApp with anyone, regardless of the reasons, activate the two-step verification feature in WhatsApp settings, choose a 6-digit PIN, and add an email address to recover the account.
