Restoration work begins on ancient Silk Market (Souq al-Harir), Damascus Governorate

Damascus, SANA- Damascus Governorate began maintenance works in historic Souq al-Harir “Silk Market” as one of the oldest markets in the Old City of Damascus, with the aim of preserving the heritage and historical identity of Damascus old markets.

Director of Old Damascus Directorate, Mamoun Hujairati told SANA in a statement “The campaign carried out by directorate includes maintenance work of the infrastructure, including electricity and sewage, and removing visual distortions.”

He noted that the old covered markets are one of the most prominent landmarks of Old Damascus, and it must preserve their beauty and cleanliness.
