Damascus, Dec. 29 (SANA) On the first anniversary of liberation, the Union of Charitable Associations in Damascus and its countryside, in cooperation with the Ministries of Social Affairs and Labor and Culture, organized an event titled “Civil society: a partner in hope, a partner in pain” at the Damascus Opera House on Sunday. The event honored 63 individuals, including former detainees from the ousted regime’s prisons and families of victims of the revolution working in civil society.

Minister of Awqaf Mohammad Abu Al-Kheir Shukri stressed the importance of supporting and empowering former detainees and families of victims, underscoring the role of charitable work in strengthening social solidarity and meeting the needs of the community.

Chairman of the Union’s board Sarya Sirawan said the Union seeks to serve the community through various charitable and service-oriented programs and projects needed after years of hardship.

Meanwhile, the Union’s Secretary Haitham Saltaji said the event aims to shed light on the work of charitable associations and non-governmental organizations active in Damascus and its countryside during the years of the revolution, as well as the challenges faced by their staff and volunteers.
