Tourism Minister: Lifting the "Caesar Act" a historic milestone for Syria’s recovery

Damascus, Dec. 11 (SANA) – Minister of Tourism Mazen al-Salahani affirmed on Thursday that the decision to lift the “Caesar Act” represents a historic milestone that restores the course of international justice and opens broad prospects for the national economy.

Speaking to SANA, al-Salahani said the tourism sector has consistently been the fastest to recover after liberation, demonstrating its ability to rebound within the first year. He emphasized that lifting external restrictions will expand opportunities to attract investments and facilitate the movement of tourist delegations, strengthening Syria’s presence on both regional and international tourism maps.

The minister noted that Syria is steadily advancing toward rebuilding a tourism sector capable of competing regionally and internationally. He added that removing obstacles to investment and tourism will provide further support to this recovery path.

al-Salahani stressed that Syria’s doors will remain open to all who wish to contribute to the country’s recovery and growth, in line with national sovereignty and sustainable development principles.

It is worth noting that the U.S. House of Representatives voted yesterday in favor of lifting the “Caesar Act” as part of the 2026 Department of Defense budget, ending years of sanctions imposed on Syria over war crimes commtted by the former regime.
