Ministry of agriculture, Syrian-Russian committee discuss boosting cooperation

Minister of Agriculture, Amjad Badr, discussed Sunday with a delegation from the Syrian-Russian Joint Committee for Trade, Economic, and Technological Cooperation ways to enhance agricultural cooperation and update existing agreements in a manner that serves the interests of both countries in the upcoming period.

During the meeting at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, Minister Badr reviewed the current state of the agricultural sector, the challenges it faced over the past years, the forced displacement of farmers, and the impact of these factors on agricultural production. He highlighted the damage inflicted on the sector and its infrastructure.
The Minister emphasized that Syria is open to all forms of cooperation with countries that contribute to its stability and support its recovery and reconstruction across all sectors.

Regarding the revitalization of the agricultural sector, Minister Badr noted that the ministry continues to work on producing fruit-bearing and forestry seedlings, developing livestock, feed, and seed sectors, fertilizers, pesticides, and modern agricultural machinery, exchanging scientific agricultural research and technical expertise, training personnel, and facilitating the exchange of agricultural products. He also pointed out that investment opportunities are available with full support and facilitation.

The delegation members highlighted the depth of historical Syrian-Russian relations, stressing the Russian government’s commitment to expanding cooperation across all fields, particularly agriculture. They emphasized the need to prioritize this cooperation according to Syria’s requirements, to promote growth in the country, and to review and update previous agreements in line with the Syrian government’s vision.
