The Higher Committee for the Syrian People’s Assembly Elections condemned on Thursday the assassination of Haidar Shahin, a parliamentary candidate from Tartous province.
In a statement issued via its Telegram channel, the committee expressed deep sorrow over Shahin’s killing, describing it as a treacherous act carried out by remnants of the former regime.
The committee voiced full support for the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice, and thanked the ministry for tightening security measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
It also extended heartfelt condolences to Shahin’s family, praying for mercy and strength in their time of grief.
The committee reaffirmed that elections will proceed as scheduled on Sunday, October 5, 2025 (13 Rabi’ al-Thani 1447 AH), across electoral districts in Syria.
