The Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections announced Monday the closure of candidacy applications for the parliamentary elections, with 1578 candidates applying nationwide.
Chairman of the Higher Committee, Mohammed Taha al-Ahmad, told SANA that candidacy applications for parliamentary seats across Syria’s 50 electoral circles officially closed Sunday night.
Among the candidates are 221 women comprising 14 percent of the total number, he added.
The election day is set for Sunday, October 5, starting at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until polls close. Vote counting will begin at 4:00 p.m. on the same day.
“The election campaign starts today and will run until Friday evening with Saturday observed as an electoral silence day”, Al-Ahmad clarified.
On September 26, Syria’s Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections released the final lists of electoral body members, confirming that all listed members are entitled to both run for office and cast their votes in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
