Syria,UNIDO explore environmentally Sustainable Industrial Development in Syria

Damascus, SANA-Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, headed by Minister Mohammad Anjarani, held an extensive meeting with representatives from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and a group of experts, aimed at strengthening international cooperation in environmental protection and sustainable development.

Discussions focused on the current state of Syria’s industrial environment and the challenges it faces, with an emphasis on aligning industrial practices with global environmental standards, optimizing resource use, and improving waste management systems.

The meeting highlighted the importance of raising environmental awareness, revising relevant legislation to balance economic growth with ecological preservation, and empowering local councils with the resources needed to implement environmental initiatives.

UNIDO proposed conducting infrastructure assessments in industrial zones and establishing green industrial areas and eco-friendly artisan villages. The organization reaffirmed its readiness to provide technical support to Syria in its transition toward a more sustainable industrial model.

This meeting marks a strategic step toward building an environmentally balanced industrial sector and opens new avenues for collaboration and knowledge exchange with international partners.
