Damascus, SANA – Carlo Batory, Minister Plenipotentiary and Central Director for Cooperation at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that the Italian ministerial delegation’s visit to Damascus aims to discuss concrete initiatives to support Syria’s reconstruction across multiple sectors.
In remarks to SANA, Batory explained that the delegation, comprising representatives from various branches of the Italian government, held meetings with Syrian ministers and deputies covering agriculture, health, economy, energy, and culture. He noted that a highly productive dialogue was also held with the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will serve as the coordinating body in setting priorities for reconstruction initiatives.
Batory emphasized that public and donor funding alone will not be sufficient, underscoring the essential role of private sector engagement in rebuilding Syria. He praised the Damascus International Fair as a key platform to encourage investment and trade, describing it as an important step toward both economic and social recovery.
He concluded by stressing that Italy’s role is to help enhance initiatives that support reconstruction in diverse sectors, and that effective cooperation between public institutions, private companies, and international partners will be vital to Syria’s rebuilding efforts.
