Southern Clans Gathering: we declare immediate comprehensive ceasefire

Damascus, SANA – In response to the Presidential Decree for a comprehensive ceasefire, and based on its commitment to preventing bloodshed, The Southern Clans Gathering affirmed that it declares an immediate and comprehensive cessation of all military operations and full commitment to it.

In a statement published Saturday on its official Facebook page, the Tribal Gathering called for the release of all detained tribesmen, ensuring the safe return of all displaced persons to their homes and villages without exception or conditions, opening channels for dialogue and coordination to ensure that what happened is not repeated, and moving towards lasting stability.

“The tribesmen have always been people of peace and patriotism, who did not seek war, nor were they advocates of fighting,” the statement stressed, adding that: “When fighting is imposed on us, it is not an option but a necessity, a legitimate defense of oneself and dignity, in the face of aggression.”
