73 Kilometers of firebreaks established in Northern Lattakia Countryside Forests

7 August، 2025

Damascus, SANA-Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed Saleh, announced the creating of firebreaks within the forests of northern Lattakia countryside, emphasizing that early intervention and proactive measures are essential to reducing wildfire risks, accelerating response efforts, and protecting forest resources.

In a post on the X platform, the minister stated: “As part of the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management’s comprehensive wildfire prevention strategy, Syrian Civil Defense teams have created firebreak operations extending 73 kilometers across forested areas in Zahiyah, Atirah, Kassab, and al-Farnlaq. Efforts are currently ongoing in al- Rabia region of northern Lattakia countryside.”

He added: “Firebreaks are a key preventive measure within forested zones as they help contain the spread of fires once they break out and facilitate access for firefighting teams, thereby minimizing environmental and economic losses and safeguarding nearby communities and vital facilities.
