Partial blackout in southern region’s electrical system due to weather conditions

Damascus, SANA – Director of the General Establishment for Electricity Transmission and Distribution, Eng. Khaled Abu Di, stated that the electrical system experienced a partial blackout in the southern region due to several factors.

He explained in a statement to SANA that the bad weather conditions and the significant increase in humidity led to the disconnection of all high-voltage lines in the central region. The generating units at Jandar power station stopped, resulting in the network being split into two.

Abu Di indicated that a fault occurred on the 230 kV high-voltage line (Deir Ali – Kiswa), causing a major shock to the grid in the southern region, leading to the shutdown of all generating units in (Nasiriyah -Tishreen-Deir Ali).

He noted that the significant rise in temperatures led to a decrease in the units’ output and an increase in demand for electrical energy.

Abu Di confirmed that the main control center team is working to gradually restore the generating units, as the establishment is taking the necessary measures to ensure stable electricity supply in all areas as soon as possible.
