Trump: lifting sanctions aimed to give Syria an opportunity

Washington, SANA – US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his decision to lift sanctions on Syria aimed to give Syria an opportunity, commending the Syrian people and their leadership.

Trump said in press statements broadcast by Al Jazeera: “I eliminated sanctions on Syria to give it an opportunity,” noting that these sanctions are hindering Syria’s recovery.

Trump added: “The Syrian people are great and are led by a strong and good man.”

US President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order yesterday “terminating the sanctions program imposed on Syria, effective as off today.”

A White House statement stated: “The executive order ends the sanctions imposed on Syria, while maintaining sanctions on Bashar al-Assad and his associates, human rights violators, drug traffickers, individuals associated with chemical weapons activities, members of ISIS and its affiliates, and Iranian proxies.”
