UN High Commissioner for Human Rights calls for restraint in Iranian-Israeli military escalation

New York, SANA – UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk warned that the military escalation between Iran and Israel is having serious humanitarian consequences for human rights and civilians, and threatens to ignite the entire region.

In a statement published yesterday on the UN News Centre, Türk said: “The intense airstrikes, missile strikes, and drone attacks have caused extensive damage beyond military targets, killing and wounding civilians, and causing extensive damage to large-scale civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings, water pipelines, and oil and gas facilities.”

Türk stressed that the only way out of this growing and irrational escalation is to exercise maximum restraint, fully respect international law, and return to the negotiating table.
