Vatican, SANA- The Vatican announced that American Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has become the first Pope from the United States, taking the name Leo XIV.
According to the AFP, the new Pope was born in Chicago and was a close assistant to the late Pope Francis. He is known within Vatican circles as a moderate figure capable of reconciling differing viewpoints.
Prevost succeeded Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21 at the age of 88, concluding a 12-year pontificate.
