Education Ministry and UNESCO look at ways to strengthen joint cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Director of Planning and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Education, Youssef Annan, discussed Sunday with representatives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) ways to enhance joint cooperation to advance the educational process in Syria.

During today’s meeting at the ministry building, Annan reviewed the needs of the Ministry of Education, which include several axes, including securing, qualifying and training educational cadres, addressing the shortage in a number of provinces and regions, and returning students who have dropped out of the educational process to their schools, which is an axis on the ministry’s list of priorities.

“Number of students in the schools and institutes affiliated with the ministry is about 4 million male and female students, and they need to secure books and public facilities that are appropriate for them and psychological support programs” Annan clarified, adding that some of the school buildings damaged by the bombing of the defunct regime need partial or complete restoration, in addition to the need to build new schools.Education Ministry and UNESCO look at ways to strengthen joint cooperation

For her part, Maysoun Chehab, Chief of the Education Section and Senior Program Specialist at UNESCO Beirut Office, confirmed the organization’s readiness to fully cooperate with the ministry to implement its strategy to advance the educational process in the best possible way, in all fields.
