New York, March 31 (SANA) UNRWA Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, warned Tuesday that worsening humanitarian conditions and a growing funding crisis could threaten the agency’s ability to deliver essential aid to millions of Palestinians.
Speaking at a press conference Tuesday, Lazzarini said conditions remain severe despite the “formal” ceasefire, with continued violence, shortages of water and food, and the spread of disease affecting civilians.
He said UNRWA remains the only organization capable of delivering large-scale humanitarian assistance, but warned that urgent financial support is required to maintain operations.
According to Lazzarini, failure to secure funding could jeopardize assistance for millions of Palestinian refugees who depend on the agency’s services.
He also addressed the situation in the West Bank, describing it as a “silent war,” marked by ongoing settler-related incidents and actions affecting UNRWA facilities.
Lazzarini warned that such developments could set a precedent that may impact the work of other UN agencies.
UNRWA, established in 1949, provides education, healthcare and food assistance to Palestinian refugees across the region.
