London, March 16 (SANA) British Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed by phone on Sunday with U.S. President Donald Trump the “importance of restoring the Strait of Hormuz,” which Iran has almost completely closed amid the ongoing U.S.–Israeli attack on its territory.
According to Reuters, a spokesperson for the British Prime Minister’s Office said the two leaders also addressed the current situation in the Middle East and the need to end disruptions to global maritime navigation, which are driving up costs worldwide.
The spokesperson added that Starmer also held a separate call with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss the impact of the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz on international shipping.
She noted that Starmer and Carney agreed to continue discussions on the Middle East conflict during a meeting scheduled for Monday.
Last week, Starmer approved a U.S. request to use two British military bases for limited defensive purposes, after previously expressing reservations about direct British involvement in U.S.–Israeli operations against Iran.
