Lima, Feb. 18 (SANA) Peru’s Congress voted in an emergency session on Tuesday to remove acting President José Jerí from office as he faces two investigations on suspicion of abuse of power.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), lawmakers approved the motion by 75 votes in favor, with 24 voting against and three abstaining.
The vote comes just weeks before presidential elections scheduled for April 12.
Jerí, 39, becomes the seventh president to be removed in Peru over the past decade. He is under investigation in two separate cases: one concerning alleged interference in the hiring of nine women within his administration, and another related to suspected crimes linked to abuse of authority.
