Moscow, Feb. 6 (SANA) Russia’s Investigative Committee announced on Friday that an assassination attempt was carried out against Deputy Defense Minister Gen. Vladimir Alekseyev in the Russian capital, Moscow.
Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said the deputy minister was shot and subsequently transferred to a hospital to receive medical treatment.
According to Russia Today (RT), Petrenko stated that a criminal case has been opened on charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms in connection with the incident.
She added that investigators and forensic experts from the Moscow branch of the Investigative Committee have begun work at the scene to identify the perpetrator or those involved in the attack.
The incident comes months after a Russian general was killed in a car explosion near Moscow in May 2025, in a separate security-related case.
Russian authorities have previously accused Kyiv of involvement in assassination attempts targeting Russian military officers and commanders amid the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
