Washington, Jan. 25 (ASNA) U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday approved a state of emergency in ten states across the southeastern United States as a powerful winter storm sweeps through large parts of the country.

According to CNN, Trump said in a statement posted on his Truth Social platform that he authorized emergency declarations for the states of Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Indiana and West Virginia.

Trump also approved emergency measures for additional states in the storm’s projected path, including South Carolina and Virginia.

State of emergency declarations temporarily ease restrictions on public spending, allowing state governors to mobilize resources more quickly and seek federal assistance.

At least 20 other states have also declared states of emergency as the storm intensifies. More than 13,000 flights have been canceled, and sections of major highways have been closed due to hazardous road conditions.

Power outages are spreading across the U.S. South amid heavy snowfall and widespread ice accumulation. Large amounts of ice have weighed down power lines and caused trees to fall, exacerbating disruptions across affected areas
