Argentine President Vowing More Reforms After Winging Legislative Elections

Argentine President Javier Milei announced, Monday, that he will continue the path of reforms and deepen economic and political changes in the country following his party, La Libertad Avanza (LLA), won in the midterm legislative elections.

“Today we reached a turning point, today begins the construction of a great Argentina,” the 55-year-old president told supporters at a victory party in Buenos Aires.
He promised to continue on the reform path with what he predicted would be “the most reformist Congress in Argentina’s history”.

Preliminary results from the Ministry of the Interior showed that President Milei’s party received over 40 percent of the votes after counting around 90 percent of the ballot boxes, ahead of the opposition coalition, Homeland Force (Fuerza Patria), which garnered 31.6 percent.

Media reports indicated that the ruling party’s victory brought relief within government circles, while Milei requested U.S. President Donald Trump to proceed with a financial support plan conditional on the election results.

Around 36 million voters across Argentina’s provinces cast their ballots yesterday to elect 127 deputies out of 257 in the Chamber of Deputies and 24 senators out of 72 in the Senate, in a vote considered a test of President Milei’s popularity nearly a year after taking office.

The main competition was between the “ La Libertad Avanza” (LLA) party led by President Milei and the “Homeland Force” ” (Fuerza Patria) coalition led by the opposition, which seeks to regain its political standing
