As part of ongoing preparations for a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his US counterpart, Marco Rubio, held a phone call on Tuesday. They discussed practical steps to implement the understandings reached recently between the two leaders.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated in an official statement that the call focused on “possible concrete steps to implement the understandings reached during the phone conversation held on October 16 between Putin and Trump,” during which an agreement was reached to hold a bilateral summit in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán described the choice of Budapest as the venue for the summit as a logical decision.
These moves come amid international efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which is expected to top the agenda of the upcoming summit.
