SAMS Conference Call for Building a Modern Healthcare System in Syria

Damascus, SANA– The 23rd International Medical Conference, organized by the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), concluded on Sunday.

The conference was held in cooperation with the Ministries of Health and Higher Education and Scientific Research, under the theme “Together to Build a Medical and Educational Rise in Syria.”

The final sessions discussed ways to update medical curricula, the use of artificial intelligence and virtual reality in education, and the importance of student-centered education in mental health.

The conference also presented future visions for rebuilding the health system in Syria, including the use of modern technologies such as blockchain in medical infrastructure, the importance of building precision medicine capacities in crisis-affected environments, and combating the spread of infectious diseases after conflicts.

SAMS President Dr. Aref Rifai, said that the conference affirms the commitment to supporting the medical sector in Syria, pointing to the need to invest in people through the transfer of expertise and the organization of educational workshops and lectures for medical students, residents, and doctors inside Syria, in addition to sending medical teams to perform operations and provide direct support to hospitals.

He noted that the association has provided support to the medical sector through equipment, supplies, and expertise, and seeks to establish high-quality specialized and educational centers.

SAMS is a non-profit humanitarian medical organization that provides healthcare and medical education in Syria and neighboring countries, with the aim of supporting communities affected by humanitarian crises. It was founded in 1998 by Syrian-American doctors committed to providing medical and humanitarian services to those in need.
