Washington, March 25 (SANA) RevMedx, a U.S.-based developer of bleeding control technologies, said it has developed a new foam material, ResQFoam™, designed to treat severe internal bleeding in the abdomen and reported its successful use in a clinical study.
According to a report published by Business Wire, the material is injected into the abdominal cavity, where it rapidly expands to create internal pressure that helps slow bleeding, allowing more time to transfer patients for surgery and address the underlying injury.
The treatment was first used as part of the REVIVE clinical study at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Lead investigator Dr. Preston Huguley said the foam helped stabilize a patient who arrived in critical condition following a traffic accident, with improvements observed in blood pressure and heart rate. The patient was later discharged after recovering.
Abdominal bleeding is considered one of the most dangerous forms of hemorrhage, as blood loss occurs internally due to trauma or disease, making rapid intervention critical to saving lives.
