Damascus Countryside, SANA – A delegation from the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, accompanied by representatives of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), conducted a field visit to the city of Darayya in Damascus Countryside to evaluate the situation in affected areas and assess rehabilitation needs.

The tour began at the Darayya Local Council headquarters, where officials outlined the city’s most pressing challenges, particularly the severe damage to infrastructure and housing. The joint delegation then inspected several heavily affected neighborhoods to determine priorities for rehabilitation projects, service restoration, and solutions to property ownership issues that continue to hinder residents’ return.
The Ministry delegation stressed that the visit forms part of a broader series of field tours across affected regions, aimed at building a realistic vision of local needs, setting priorities, and strengthening the capacity of local councils to support recovery efforts and empower communities.
For its part, GIZ – an international development agency active in over 120 countries – provides technical and financial assistance to promote sustainable development and community resilience worldwide.
