Damascus, SANA- With participation of about 500,000 male and female students from various schools across the governorates, the first phase of qualifying dates for the 9th edition of Arab Reading Challenge initiative, held in United Arab Emirates(UAE) for the year 2024-2025,started Sunday.

In a statement to SANA reporter, the initiative’s general coordinator in Syria, Nour al-Qadi, underlined the initiative’s importance in promoting Arabic language, general culture, self-learning skills, and creative critical thinking among students by encouraging them to read.

Al-Qadi said that the 2nd phase of governorate-level qualifiers begins on May 14th and 15th, and the participating students must complete reading 35 books over the first phase and 50 books over the final phase.

She went on saying the judging panels, which comprises a number of professional educational cadres, focus on the student’s level of comprehension of what they have read, in addition to several questions related to what they have learned from reading these books.
