Damascus, Dec 13 (SANA) The Chairman of Syria’s Distinction and Creativity Agency, Shadi al-Azmeh, said on Saturday that a U.S. House of Representatives vote to repeal the Caesar Act could ease restrictions on the country’s scientific sector and open new horizons for scientific research and support efforts to foster excellence and innovation in various fields.
“Lifting sanctions would give researchers better access to laboratory equipment and create a more supportive environment for scientific work,” al-Azmeh said, adding that this move could also allow Syrian institutions to rejoin academic exchange programs and participate in European Union research projects.
Al-Azmeh noted that easing restrictions would help universities and research centers upgrade laboratories and launch new programs, improving the overall quality of scientific output.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Dec. 10 to repeal the 2019 Caesar Act, which imposed sanctions on Syria under the “Caesar Act,” which was passed in December 2019 to punish the deposed regime for the war crimes it committed against the Syrian people during the years of the revolution.
