Damascus, Dec.11 (SANA) Syrian Minister of Education, Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turko, announced that the ministry is finalizing a draft law specifically addressing teachers’ affairs, which includes benefits and incentives aimed at improving their living conditions and enhancing their professional standing.
In a statement to SANA on Thursday, Turko emphasized that “improving the living conditions of teachers is a legitimate demand,” noting that the ministry is working in coordination with the Ministries of Development and Finance to achieve this goal. He added that the draft law is being prepared in close collaboration with the Teachers’ Syndicate to ensure it “reflects their aspirations and fairly rewards their efforts,” highlighting the ministry’s commitment to institutional partnership and fairness.
Turko also pointed out that the ministry places high priority on school restoration, saying that “every school that is restored contributes to building the future.” He explained that “a safe and suitable learning environment is a fundamental partner in the educational process,” underscoring the link between physical infrastructure and quality education.
On the role of teachers, the minister affirmed that they are “the cornerstone of any reform project,” not merely transmitters of knowledge, but “shapers of awareness, builders of generations, and captains of the educational ship.” He stressed that the ministry has “placed teachers at the forefront of its priorities” and remains committed to an education system that “combines tradition and modernity, values and knowledge.”
