Sweida, SANA- The areas cultivated with rainfed and irrigated wheat in Sweida Province have reached about 4,504 hectares so far, according to Director of Agriculture in Sweida, Eng. Malek al-Halabi.

Al-Halabi said in a statement to SANA reporter on Wednesday that the areas cultivated with rainfed wheat have reached up to 3,838 hectares, with an execution rate of 11 percent of the current season’s plan.
He added that the low execution of the plan is due to the late rainfall in most areas and the high costs of production requirements for farmers.

According to al-Halabi, the area cultivated with irrigated wheat has reached up to 666 hectares, with an execution rate of 78 percent, indicating that the cultivation operations of rainfed and irrigated crops will continue during the current month.

Regarding barley cultivation, al-Halabi said that the cultivated area has reached up to 4,644 hectares so far, all of which are rainfed with an execution rate of 14 percent of the total plan for the current season.
