Damascus, Aug. 5 (SANA)  Syrian Finance Minister Mohamed Yisr Barnieh welcomed Tuesday the positive assessment issued by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding continued momentum in Syria’s economic recovery, improved growth and fiscal performance.

In a post on his Facebook page, Barnieh said the IMF statement represents an important message that reinforces confidence in the reforms being pursued by the government to restore macroeconomic stability and support recovery.

The minister added that these steps would contribute to consolidating sound fiscal policies, creating an environment supportive of private-sector growth and attracting investment, while affirming continued work with an optimistic outlook for the future.

The International Monetary Fund said on its official website Tuesday that its team of experts, following a visit to Syria on July 23 to discuss reforms and technical assistance, expects economic growth to exceed 10 percent this year and remain strong through 2027.

The Fund projected that inflation could decline by 2027, provided import-related pressures continue to ease.

The IMF also called for urgent international financial support to help rehabilitate infrastructure and improve services.
