Syrian customs chief inspects Raqqa and northern border crossings
Qutaiba Badawi

Raqqa, Jan. 25 (SANA) The head of Syria’s General Authority for Ports and Customs, Qutaiba Badawi, has conducted an inspection tour of customs facilities in Raqqa and the Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain border crossings with Turkey to assess operations following taking over from the SDF.

According to a statement by the authority, Badawi was accompanied by his deputy for customs affairs and several senior officials. The visit focused on evaluating operational readiness, infrastructure, and administrative procedures at the sites.

Officials reviewed working conditions, technical equipment, and the implementation of customs procedures, as well as logistical and staffing needs. The inspection also examined operational challenges, with the stated aim of streamlining procedures and improving the flow of transit and trade.

The tour included an assessment of buildings and facilities, along with plans to reinforce border centers with trained personnel and upgrade infrastructure. Officials emphasized compliance with existing regulations and improved coordination among relevant departments.

The visit comes as government institutions resume operations in Raqqa, Deir Ezzor, and Hasakah provinces, following the Syrian Arab Army’s control over dozens of towns and villages in those areas since mid-month.
