Washington, Jan. 21 (SANA) Gold prices hit a new record high , on Wednesday breaking above the $4,800-per-ounce level. This was supported by strong safe-haven demand and a weaker U.S. dollar.
According to CNBC, spot gold rose 2.2 per cent to $4,868.10 per ounce.
U.S. gold futures for February delivery climbed 2.03 per cent to $4,862.40 per ounce.
In currency markets, the dollar hovered near a three-week low against the euro and the Swiss franc following a broad sell-off in U.S. assets triggered by White House threats regarding Greenland.
Among other precious metals, spot silver rose 0.1 per cent to $94.68 per ounce after reaching a record high of $95.87 in the previous session.
Meanwhile, platinum rose 0.9 per cent to $2,485.50 per ounce, and palladium gained 0.4 per cent to $1,873.18.
