Syria cuts customs duties on livestock imports to support agricultural sector

Damascus, Dec. 02 (SANA) Syria has announced major reductions in customs duties for livestock imports, a move aimed at revitalizing the agricultural sector and encouraging steady trade.

The National Committee for Import and Export issued the decision Tuesday, saying the new tariffs will see a sharp drop for cattle and calves, now set at $7 per head, down from the previous rate of $53. Similarly, the customs duty on camels will be reduced from $27 per head to $7. For sheep and goats, the duty will be lowered to $2 per head, a significant decrease from $7.

This decision is part of a broader effort to boost the livestock sector, stabilize local markets, and facilitate more consistent imports of essential agricultural products.

The General Authority for Ports and Customs has been instructed to implement the new rates at all land, sea, and airports, with the policy going into effect immediately.
