A Syrian delegation headed by Deputy Economy and Industry Minister Basil Abdul Hanan to take part in the 21st General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in the Saudi capital on Sunday, held this year under the banner of the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) 2025.
Qasim Kamil, Director of Government Communications at the Ministry of Economy and Industry, told SANA in Riyadh that Syria’s participation reflects ongoing cooperation with UNIDO and aims to highlight the organization’s supportive role in industrial recovery efforts in countries affected by conflicts and crises. He said such cooperation helps advance inclusive and sustainable industrial development and contributes to building stable and prosperous communities.
Kamil noted that the summit will discuss UNIDO’s proposed industrial recovery program, which was prepared in coordination with the Economy and Industry Ministry and relevant government bodies. He said the program is expected to move forward toward approval during the conference proceedings.
He added that Syria’s presence at GMIS underscores the ministry’s commitment to expanding Syria’s participation in major international economic events, building effective partnerships that support the rehabilitation of the industrial sector, boosting production capacity and accelerating economic recovery amid current challenges.
The conference brings together ministers, experts and specialists from UNIDO member states to advance industrial policy dialogue, promote recovery frameworks and explore partnerships for sustainable industrial growth.
