Khalaf Al Habtoor: A Self-Made Success Story

DAMASCUS, Syria (SANA) — Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, a billionaire businessman from the United Arab Emirates, is widely regarded as one of the region’s most accomplished self-made entrepreneurs.

  • He founded the Al Habtoor Group in 1970, a time when the UAE itself was in its infancy. Over the decades, his company has grown into a global conglomerate with diversified interests in hospitality, real estate, automotive services, education, and publishing.
  • The group currently operates 14 world-class hotels in the UAE and abroad, alongside a growing footprint in other industries. Al Habtoor is recognized not only for his business achievements but also for his contributions to social development and philanthropy.
  • He has served as a member of the UAE Federal National Council and held a board seat at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Internationally, he was a member of the Board of Governors for the American United Service Organization (USO).
  • Education and humanitarian work remain key priorities for Al Habtoor. He is a patron of the Khalaf Al Habtoor Assistive Technology Resource Center at Zayed University and has consistently supported academic and charitable initiatives across the region.
  • In sports, he has made notable contributions to tennis in the UAE, helping expand the sport’s reach and infrastructure.

Those who know him often describe Al Habtoor as a visionary and resilient leader who took calculated risks to turn obstacles into opportunities. His story reflects both the challenges and the possibilities of building something lasting in a rapidly changing world.
