Directorate of Antiquities and Museums refutes claims of Damascus National Museum being emptied

Damascus, SANA- Director of museum affair at directorate general of museums and antiquities, Dima Achkar, has refuted circulating social media rumors alleging that the National Museum in Damascus has been emptied of its collections or that several employees were placed on forced leave.

In a statement to SANA, Dr. Achkar emphasized that these claims are entirely unfounded and lack any credible source. She clarified that the museum operates under strict institutional procedures, and all archaeological and historical artifacts remain in place, safeguarded and monitored daily by teams of experts, technicians, and administrators.

She further stressed that all museum staff continue to perform their duties as usual, and there is no truth to the allegations of transferring or removing the museum’s holdings.

Dr. Achkar also underscored the importance of responsible media conduct and urged social media users to refrain from spreading rumors. She called for collective support of cultural institutions and the ongoing efforts to preserve Syria’s invaluable heritage.
