Venice, May.7 (SANA) Culture Minister Mohammad Yassin Saleh inaugurated the national pavilion of the Syrian Arab Republic at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in Italy, featuring Sarah Shamma’s immersive installation “The Palmyra Tower Tomb,” inspired by the ancient city of Palmyra.
The artistic project revives the symbolism of the funerary towers of the ancient city of Palmyra through a contemporary artistic experience that combines painting, architecture, sound, and light, while focusing on themes of memory, loss, and human continuity.
The project provides an immersive artistic experience encouraging visitors to engage with the artistic space, drawing inspiration from Palmyra’s historical status as a crossroads of civilizations and cultures in the ancient world, while shading light on the power of art to revive memory and reshape it into a shared human space.
The Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Italy, Ambassador Hussein Al-Sabbagh attended the event.
