Tartous, Dec 07 (SANA) In an atmosphere of joy and national pride, Al-Najma Square in Tartous hosted a mass celebration on Saturday evening marking the first anniversary of Syria’s liberation. Crowds carrying flags filled the square, chanting slogans that participants said reflected a shared sense of victory and belonging.
Artist Wasfi Massarani led the evening’s musical program. He told SANA that performing in Tartous on this occasion was “a great honor,” adding that the presence of Syrians in what he called “the squares of freedom” is the result of “great sacrifices made by the martyrs and detainees.”

He said the people “have the right to celebrate their victory and begin rebuilding their country,” sending a message of love and brotherhood to all Syrians and urging them to rise above notions of minority and majority and unite under a shared sense of citizenship.
Event organizer Rana Ta’meh said the evening was held to celebrate “a blessed day that represents a victory for all Syrians,” noting that residents of Tartous are keen to commemorate the date to express joy and renew hope.
Hala Naqrour, director of the Nahawand Choir, described her participation as an expression of belonging to the homeland and a tribute to martyrs and the free. She said performing alongside Massarani was “important,” describing him as “a refined and committed artist who carries a clear message.” She added that their shared performance was dedicated to “humanity, heroism and the land watered by the blood of martyrs.”
Audience members said the celebration was long awaited and marked a national moment for drawing inspiration and honoring the meaning of victory.
Tartous Governor Ahmed al-Shami attended the event, along with local officials, community figures and residents from across the governorate.
