Minister Azzam attends 40th day memorial of late patriarch Hilarion Capucci

Damascus, SANA- Upon the directives of President Bashar al-Assad, State Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam attended the 40th day memorial mass for the rest of the soul of late patriarch of Jerusalem in exile Hilarion Capucci.

The mass was held at the Patriarchate of “Dormition of Our Lady” Melkite Rome Catholic in Damascus.

Patriarch of Antioch and All the East for Melkite Rome Catholic Gregory III Laham led the mass, delivering a speech in tribute of Cappuci who spent his life-long in the service of the Palestinian cause and the struggle of Syrian people.

Syria’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun, the representative of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Ramzi Khouri and the Papal Nuncio in Damascus attended the mass.

Archbishop of Jerusalem in Exile Hilarion Capucci passed away at the age of 94 in the Italian Capital of Rome on January 1st, 2017.

The late Capucci was born in Aleppo city in 1922 and became a bishop of the Greek Catholic Church in Jerusalem in 1965.
