Damascus Chamber of Commerce discusses enhancing economic relations with Belgium

Damascus, SANA – Means of reactivating the Syrian-Belgian trade and economic cooperation and efforts exerted to lift the unjust unilateral economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people were the focus of talks held between Damascus Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Belgian delegation currently visiting Syria.

Head of the Belgian delegation Filip Dewinter underlined the need to push forward the economic relations between the two countries and encourage Belgian companies, investors and businessmen to cooperate with their Syrian counterparts and establish investment projects in Syria.

Dewinter described as “inhuman” the unilateral economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, adding that there are so many reasons to support Syria and convince the Belgian community of the negative consequences of these unjust procedures and their impact on Syria’s economy and society.

In turn, Head of Damascus Chamber of Commerce Ghassan al-Qalla’a stressed the importance of restoring the investment, trade and industrial ties between Syria and other European countries.

A Belgian delegation of parliamentarians and journalists arrived in Damascus on Thursday with the aim of inspecting the reality of what is taking place on the ground and means of providing support to the Syrian people.
