Damascus, SANA- President Bashar al-Assad received on Wednesday the National Security Adviser of Iraq Falah al-Fayad who conveyed a letter from Iraqi Prime Minister Haydar al-Abadi on political, military and security cooperation between Syria and Iraq, particularly combating terrorism.
Al-Fayad briefed President al-Assad on the ongoing preparations to advance into al-Mosul city and liberate it from terrorism, affirming the Iraqi leaderships’ commitment to continue support, communication and coordination with the Syrian government as this cooperation will have positive outcomes in combating terrorist organizations which pose threat to the region and the world.
President al-Assad, for his part, congratulated brotherly Iraq, as a government and people, for the victories and achievements gained by the Iraqi army and popular Hashd (mobilization) forces in combating ISIS organization, the latest of which was liberating al-Falluja city.
The President stressed that the war carried on by the Syrian and Iraqi armies is one, saying that any victory which is being realized against terrorism in any of the two countries is a victory for both sides and all other sides which have seriousness in fighting and overcoming terrorism.
President al-Assad, on July 29th, 2015, discussed with al-Fayad consolidating security cooperation between the two countries.
Iraqi Prime Minister announced on June 17th, 2016 that the Iraqi army established control on al-Falluja city center after eliminating ISIS defeated remnants.
