Al-Laham: Battle against global terrorism beginning to take shape in Syria

Damascus, SANA – Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham on Wednesday met Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security at the Iranian Shura Council Alaeddin Boroujerdi and discussed with him the latest regional developments and means to fight terrorism.

Al-Laham asserted that Syrian-Iranian relations are an element of stability and security in the region and serve to protect it from division, stressing that the Russian airstrikes in Syria proved the false nature of the Washington-led alliance and that ISIS and Jabhat al-Nusra are tied to the United states, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey, all of whom are now beginning to clamor in a desperate attempt to distort the truth about Russia’s role in fighting terrorism.

The Speaker affirmed that the battle against global terrorism is taking its natural shape in Syria now after the states which have real interests in fighting terrorism have started to take action to confront the threat of terrorism on all levels.

He also noted that the conflicting Western statements about the situation in Syria reflect the state of disarray and worry among those who are conspiring against Syria.

For his part, Boroujerdi said that the U.S.-led alliance isn’t fighting terrorism in a serious manner; rather their efforts are mere showboating and theatrics, stressing that the Iranian nuclear deal will not affect Iran’s determination to continue supporting Syria and Iraq.

In response to a question by SANA’s reporter on Iran’s vision for resolving the crisis in Syria, Boroujerdi said that any decision in this regard will be based on the Syrian decision, adding that the presence of Russian forces in the battlefield will create new developments, which is already apparent in the increasing nervousness of U.S. officials and the major defeats terrorists are suffering.
