Mikdad: West breach of UN Convention prevented solving crisis in Syria

Beirut, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad said the UN convention has no longer become the document which governs its role in today’s world.

“One of the most important breaches of the UN convention is the western polices which have prevented from finding a just solution to the Palestinian cause and the crisis in Syria which mainly caused by the intervention of Israel, western countries and their tools in Syria’s domestic affairs ,” Mikdad said in an article published by Lebanese al-Binaa newspaper on Saturday.

He added that a number of dominating states at Security Council like the US, Britain and France approve counter-terrorism resolutions, but they turn against them and support, arm, train and harbor terrorists in Syria and push them to kill Syrian people.

Mikdad affirmed that those western countries adopt “devilish ways” to interpret the UN charter’s context and to impose a distorted explanation of it to serve their interests, and in this case, the aggression on Syria becomes justified, taking into consideration that the Convention bans using the UN to change regimes away from the will of the peoples.

He said the true reform in the UN is that effort being carried out in transparency and credibility in the interest of world peace and security to prevent any county from intervening in the countries’ internal affairs under illusive justifications.

“We still believe in the UN role and we are still cooperating with others to reform any defect in its performance, but we affirm that the opportunities to reform the international organization will not extend forever,” Mikdad added.
