Syria calls on Human Rights’ Council to take steps to stop Israeli violations in occupied Arab lands

Geneva, SANA-Syria said on Monday that the Israeli continued occupation of the Arab lands since 1967, and Israel’s continued violations of the Palestinian and Syrian human rights affirms the important role of the Human rights’ Council to monitor and condemn the record of crimes and dangerous violations of the human rights in the occupied lands.

“While Israel continues its mounting aggressions, we express denunciation of the double standard policy practiced by some countries to prevent the Council from assuming its responsibilities towards the suffering of the Arab citizens from the crimes and racial practices perpetrated by the Israeli occupation authorities against them every day,” Syria’s permanent envoy to the UN in Geneva, Hussam al-Din Ala said in a statement at a session for the Human Rights Council to discuss the 7th item on the human rights’ status in the occupied Palestinian lands and the occupied Syrian Golan.

He regretted the political hypocrisy of  some countries that call on the council to stop condemnation of the Israeli practices instead of demanding the occupation authorities to halt their crimes and violations which target the simplest Palestinian and Syrian human rights under occupation, mainly, the right of life, education, health, food, let alone, depriving them from practicing their sovereign right to use their natural resources.

Ala referred to the Israeli occupation’s new crime when it re-detained the liberated captor Sidqi al-Maqt on February 25th, 2015 without any legal warrant, and re-arrest Sheikh Atef Darwish and liberated prisoner Fidaa al-Shaer on March 2nd, in a violation of Geneva 4th convention for 1949.

“We have repeatedly shed the light, at this council, to the Israeli violations and warned against Israeli endeavors to consolidate its occupation of Golan  , turning a blind eye to the international resolutions, particularly resolution No. 497 for 1981.. and we add today a new chapter represented by the support it offers to the armed terrorist organizations including Jabhat al-Nusra,” Ala said.

He called on the Council to abandon “the formal condemnations” of the Israeli violations and take proper measures to stop these violations and make Israel understand that policies of extremism, aggression and settlement wouldn’t bring peace or security, and the just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East only passes through ending its occupation and of the Arab lands, including al-Quds and the occupied Syrian Golan to the line of June 4th, 1967 in light of resolutions 242 and 338.
