Syria calls for taking serious steps to compel Israel to join Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

Vienna, SANA, Syria called on International Community to take a clear decision and serious practical steps to compel Israel joining Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons and inspect all its facilities by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) without preconditions.

“The International Community must take serious steps in order to oblige Israel to join Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons,” Syria’s permanent representative to UN and other international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Hasan Khaddour, said in a statement before IAEA Board on Item “12” related to applying IAEA safeguards in the Middle East,

Khaddour condemned the US bias to Israel and its double standards policy regarding the proliferation of mass destruction weapons.

He said, “The US claims interest in issues of non-proliferation of mass destruction weapons, but when it is related to Israel and its nuclear and chemical arsenal, all this vanish as it seeks to find justifications and excuses

Khaddour stressed that Syria’s cooperation with the Atomic Agency has never stopped, and successive safeguards implementation reports witness that Syria has fulfilled all its legal obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and Non-Proliferation Treaty and that it has committed to all requests of periodic inspections as schedule.
