Damascus, SANA- Syria won the seat of Deputy Secretary-General of the General Union of Arab Writers during the meeting held by the Union Council in Damascus on July 26th and 27th.

Syria was elected by unanimous vote to occupy the position, with Dr. Mohammad al-Hourani, President of the Union in Syria.

“All writers participating in the meeting from most Arab countries expressed their stances in support of Syria stating that their participation is not for the sake of the meeting only;rather it is to highlight their political and moral position side by side with Syria”, the newly- appointed Deputy Secretary-General of Arab Writers, Tawfiq Ahmed, Vice-President of the Union in Syria, said in a statement to SANA.

On Tuesday, Damascus hosted the Council’s works of the meeting, with the participation of delegations from 12 Arab countries, under the title “Writers for Arabism”, at the Al-Assad National Library in Damascus.
