Moscow: Western states target integration of Eurasian Economic Union

Moscow, SANA- The Russian Foreign Ministry has affirmed that Western countries are seeking to disrupt the integration processes in the Eurasian Economic Union, stressing that the attempt of the US and its allies to strengthen their military presence in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) expanse are unacceptable and involve great risks.

“The illegal unilateral and unprecedented restrictive measures imposed by the West in recent months against Russia and Belarus can only affect the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union due to the deep interdependence of economies within single market,” Mikhail Evdokimov, Director of the First Department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying.

Evdokimov underlined the importance for the countries of this union to focus on compensating the negative consequences of Western sanctions in a way that contributes to providing the union market with the necessary industrial and agricultural goods alike, considering that the import substitution policy has the greatest impact in this context.
