Rouhani: Iran stands by Syria until final victory over terrorism achieved

Tehran, SANA_ Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday reiterated that Iran will stand by the Syrian people and government until the final victory over terrorism, the return of refugees and the reconstruction of Syria are achieved.

Rouhani, during his meeting with the Syrian ambassador in Tehran Dr. Shafiq Dayoub and receiving his credentials, described the Syrian-Iranian relations as strategic, friendly and fraternal throughout history.

“In recent years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the Syrian people in defending the truth and fighting terrorism until the final victory is achieved and the return of refugees and the reconstruction in Syria”.

Rouhani stressed that Iran will continue its diplomatic efforts, especially in the framework of the Astana talks, to help fully establish stability, peace and tranquility in Syria.

He expressed his condolences on the death of the late Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem and appreciated his efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries.

For his part, Ambassador Dayoub emphasized that the Syrian government and people want to preserve all the valuable achievements that have been realized in the past four decades in strategic relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He hailed Iran’s support for the leadership, government and people of Syria.

Ambassador Dayoub stressed that Syria is going ahead to cooperate with its brothers and allies in combating terrorism and occupation in all its forms and names, indicating that it has made great achievements and steps in this regard and will continue its cooperation with Iran to contain the results and effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the two countries.

He also praised Iran’s diplomatic efforts to bring stability to Syria and facilitate the return of displaced Syrians, and its support for the work of the Committee of Discussing Constitution.
