With participation of Syria, 67th round of WHO Regional Committee for Eastern Mediterranean launched

Damascus, SANA- With the participation of Syria, activities of the 67th session of the World Health Organization “WHO” Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean was launched on Monday.

At the beginning of the round,  Health minister, Dr. Hassan al-Ghabbash was elected as deputy director of Regional Committee.

“The world is still confronting a big challenge due to coronavirus pandemic which left healthy, political, and social effects that may last for long time on different countries of the world, and this requires the solidarity and cooperation of all with less possible losses from the repercussions of pandemic.” The Minister said in a speech to the 2-days round through video conference.

The Minister affirmed that the workers of health sector continue their response for coronavirus with all faith and sincerity despite the exceptional circumstances imposed by the continuous terrorist war on Syria since nine years which led to the destruction of several health centers and medical equipment.

Ghabbash called for lifting the economic coercive measures imposed on Syria which restrict the ability of heath sector to perform its duty toward Syrians to protect their health security, where several countries have strong health and economic systems to address the pandemic and save the spirits , while  the US and European countries continue imposing their inhuman blockade on Syria and its people.

He added that despite the challenges imposed by the war conditions and besiege, the health sector has put all its humanitarian and material potentials within the available possibilities to confront coronavirus pandemic by specification centers of treatment ,  quarantine and isolation and applying treatment and preventive protocols and updating them according to global and local developments.

However , Health sector continues performance of its obligations to provide treatment medical, curative and diagnostic services, and to provide free medicines for chronic patients and oncology, he added.
